Thinking of the Big Picture

Here’s a picture of 10,000 galaxies.

For reference, the Milky Way galaxy (our galaxy) has about 200 billion stars, so the photo of 10,000 galaxies includes several trillion stars by even the most conservative of estimates.

All told, there are approximately 1024 stars.

The photograph of 10,000 galaxies is a magnification of an area about 1/10 the diameter of the moon, from our perspective.

Next time I say it’s a long drive to New Hampshire, somebody hit me.

You know, 6 hours is 6 hours. There are pleanty of things you could be doing with that time.

    Somehow, I feel smaller.

I try to think big, but I can’t keep it up. I try to imagine how I look from someone on the moon, just a little speck moving around on this big blue and green ball up in space, but I end up right back in my head before I know it.

Hmm.. Ever wonder what it’s like to sit on the moon and look up at the Earth? To pick up a handful of moon dust and let slowly fall through your fingers to the ground?
